FAQ’s / RULES

When do we start and end for dates and times?

Our league Starts Wednesday, Jan 29th, and ends Wednesday, Apr 30th. You can subscribe to our Google Calendar to follow any date adjustments.

We start bowling every Wednesday at 6:20PM and end at 9PM at Gilroy Bowl

What are the Teams and handicap format?

Teams will consist of 4-person men or women bowlers with a total of 32 players. If players are absent they can pick from a subs list and not lose any pins for being absent. The subs average will be used. This will be a handicap league allowing fairness for all teams.  Handicap methodology is 90% of 210 pins.

Here is how Handicap Calculation will work:

Example: Game 1 you bowl 130

Game 2 you bowl 125

Game 3 you bowl 150

Total 405/3=135 average

210 minus 135=75, 75 times 90%=67 is your handicap per-game

How will scores, stats, and standings be tracked?

All info and data when you bowl will be automatically tracked and stored at Gilroy Bowl. A computer sheet will come out every week with the following week's stats, team scores, team standings, high scores, etc.

What are the fees, costs and Payouts?

The fees are: $25 per week to bowl 3 games.  $20 is the bowling alley fee and $5 is a prize fund.  There is no charge if you need to use their shoes.

We are collecting 7 weeks of bowling fees, $175 per person, upfront payable to the bowling alley on or before we start bowling on Jan 29th.   This will minimize the bookkeeping required at our end.  The remaining 7 weeks of $175 will be collected on or before Mar 19th to start the 2nd half of our winter league.  PS: Thank the bowling alley for lowering our fees for this league.  They accept credit cards & Apple Pay.

Prizes / Winning Payouts:

Part of the bowling fees will go into a prize fund and be distributed on the last week of regular season bowling.  We also plan to have a trophy or trophies for the winners of different categories.  All TBD

Can we use our personal bowling shoes or balls?

Yes, you can!! Are you looking to buy new bowling gear? You may purchase shoes, bags, and balls from Sean Mamlok at the Morgan Hill bowling alley, 408-489-3517, and schedule an appointment.  He will not charge sales tax and you will receive additional discounts for shoe, bag, and ball combo purchases.  Mention Gilroy Bowl when you purchase items.

Can we have subs when we can’t play?

The league will allow substitutes if you’re out on vacation, sick, etc.  The subs will have a bowling average that can be used in place of the regular team member. If the subs do not have an average, then the league's averages for men and women will be used. You will not lose 10 pins unless you do not show up and no sub is present. The subs will not need to pay but you can collect from them at your discretion since you already paid upfront. Please notify or contact us if you need help getting subs to ensure we have full teams each week. Bowling Etiquette and League Policies.
